On 7 May 2026, the Braunschweig Lions came to our school to meet our class.
After an introduction by Mrs. Senkpiel and Mrs. Nolte, we spoke with Holger Fricke, who is responsible for public relations, and five international members of the team:
Taylor Paswelkoski (USA)
Brandon Potts (USA)
Duygu Ozkor (UK)
Petter Langdalen (NOR)
and Ely Sokhna (BEL)

At first, the players introduced themselves to us. After that, Mr. Fricke gave us a short presentation. In 1987, the club’s first team was founded. In 1994, the team was promoted to the GFL. In 1997, the Lions won their first German Bowl. The GFL has existed since 1992. The Lions won 12 titles in 34 years.
We also learned that the club isn’t just an American football club; you can also do cheerleading there. The club has an American football team for girls, too. Everybody who is interested in joining is welcome!
In the second part of the lesson, our class interviewed the players in English and we really enjoyed listening to them. We got some interesting insights into the life of professional athletes and their positive mindsets. The team’s slogans are: “WE HAVE THE POWER TO CHANGE THE WORLD AND TO INSPIRE THE WORLD” and “IF YOU THINK YOU CAN DO IT, YOU CAN DO IT”.
In addition to football practice, the team goes to the gym three times a week. Everyone wants to be a good team member. The team has one of the biggest fan communities in Germany.
Thank you for visiting us. We had a fantastic time!
